HIFU - High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

HIFU is the next evolution in aesthetic science. HIFU is a new type of non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin.

HIFU works by delivering precisely focused beams of ultrasound energy at three different depths in the skin’s layers. The body’s natural wound-healing response results in the formation of new collagen which leads to a long term tightening of the skin. Unlike lasers, which penetrate the skin from the outside-in, the HIFU procedure bypasses the surface of the skin, and delivers targeted energy specifically into the deep, structural tissues where collagen lives. Because ultrasound technology actually works non-invasively from the inside-out, results build gradually over 2-3 months, and can continue to improve up to 12 months after the procedure.

At The Cosmetic Hub, our HIFU System is one of the best selling medical HIFU devices in Australia being sold since 2016, included on TGA registry of medical devices ARTG # 357130. It is a multi-liner machine, delivering a uniform matrix of thermal heat dots across the treatment area. This results in a strong uniform matrix of new collagen and elastin; this is the key to achieving lasting visible results.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT PERFORMED?

After assessment of the area and your medical history, the skin is marked out to guide the treatment process. Ultrasound gel is applied, then the appropriate HIFU hand piece is applied over the treatment area. Rows of rapid, precisely aimed ultrasonic heat energy is released. It makes a warm prickling sensation. This is repeated over the whole treatment area, potentially at different treatment depths, to contour and achieve results specifically suited to your individual needs.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Any area that has lost elasticity in the skin and soft tissue, ie:

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Décolletage

  • Abdomen

  • Back

  • Arms

  • Thighs

HIFU can be used to

  • Lift brows, cheeks, eyelids

  • Define the jawline

  • Reduce lines and wrinkles on face, neck, decolletage

  • Tighten sagging skin on neck, decolletage, body

BODY SCULPTING

In a HIFU Body Sculpting treatment the ‘micro-burn’ is targeted deep into the fat layers, instantly and permanently melting fat cells. Furthermore, as the tissue is repaired, a new collagen and elastin matrix is created resulting in a firmer, toned and sculpted body shape.

The HIFU is the quickest non-invasive treatment to remove stubborn ‘hard-to-shift’ fat deposits (‘fat pads’) whilst also toning and tightening the skin. With visible results after just one treatment, and NO down-time, HIFU offers a real, natural alternative to liposuction or surgery.

Body areas that can be treated include abdomen, underarms, back fat, buttocks and thighs.

FAQS

Who is eligible for HIFU?

We cannot treat skin/soft tissue that has open lesions or wounds, cystic acne, mechanical or dermal implants, implanted electrical devices or metal implants (including dental - unless a barrier is established). Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not proceed with HIFU. This treatment acts on tightening skin tissue and so results are best seen on people over 30 years of age.

Can I have any other cosmetic treatments on the day of my appointment?

Some relaxation therapies may be suitable to have on the same day as your appointment, but as HIFU is purposely causing an inflammatory response to the soft tissue it may not be advised. Please ask our staff for details.

Is a HIFU treatment painful?

HIFU produces a crackling, tingling or aching feeling whilst the treatment is taking place but most people tolerate this well. If you are concerned about pain, you can take over-the-counter pain killers that do not contain anti-inflammatories. For expert advice, please speak to your pharmacist.

Is there any downtime?

You are able to resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment. Some slight redness or swelling may occur, but it is mostly unnoticeable and should subside quickly. Skin may feel tender immediately after the procedure which can last up a few weeks. A light tingling sensation of the treated area may persist for a few weeks. A headache may follow HIFU treatment on the forehead area.

How long will I notice the benefits?

HIFU is an amazing technology that delivers dramatic results in as little as one to three sessions.

Sometimes results can be seen immediately, however most notice a difference in their appearance after 4 to 6 weeks as the ablated contents of the adipocytes (fat cells) are progressively eliminated by the macrophages and flushed away via the normal circulation and lymphatic systems. A true indication of how the treatment has worked will be evident as of 3 months post treatment and results may last 1 to 3 years. It is recommended that you wait at least 4 weeks between HIFU sessions.
